1950s Sunday School

I do remember as a very young child in the 1950s being taken by my Mother’s hand and going into the original church building to attend Sunday School.  I was a very shy little girl and entering what seemed like an incredibly dark area was scary.  When the new Christian Education building was completed it was unbelievably wonderful to be in a brand-new facility that was so well lit.  At the same time, as an Explorer, I often wondered and asked a leader when we could have our meetings in the lounge (off the lower hall) which was outfitted with comfy sofas and chairs.  The lounge was separated from the main hall by an accordion door.  Alas, I was always told when we are older and in CGIT.  Finally, when I was in CGIT, small group meetings were held in this amazing space and we felt “special”.  When our Vesper Services were held, there were enough girls to line both sides of the sanctuary.  This was well before the sanctuary was renovated and the luxurious red carpet was laid.  Bob and I were married at FGUC in 1977 and at that time the red carpet seemed so regal for this blessed event.
