Follow-up: Harry Douglas & the “Deep River Boys”
Audrey McLennan sent us this story:
I enjoyed the story about Harry Douglas and can add a little more for you.
A notice appeared in the Presbytery handout at one of their monthly meetings which I attended as a Staff person.
It said that Harry would be happy to be invited to worship at one of our churches when he was in Winnipeg for a gig
at the International Inn. I suggested to Don Frame that we should take him up on his offer. (to attend at FGUC)
Harry & the Deep River Boys lived in New York and toured for a good part of every year, including Winnipeg.
Needless to say, the Fort Garry United Church was always full. He came for about three years in a row.
Don's format of the two of them having a relaxed conversation (no sermon) was a terrific way of being with Harry.
Did I say I was a huge fan for many years and was thrilled we had managed to meet Harry, a deeply spiritual man.
And I remember your wonderful story of him responding to your invitation, Bonnie, (Neil) to come to your group at the Jewish Day Centre.
Lots of good memories!
