COMMUNION SERVERS
This story comes to mind:
It was a long-standing custom for the Elders, all male, to serve Communion to the congregation sitting in the pews.
I think it was in the late 60's that I was invited to become a member of Session.
Not long after, I received a phone call from the Elder who was organizing the Elders for the next Communion.
He asked me how I felt about serving Communion and whether I would want to.
I sweetly replied that I would like to do everything the Elders were responsible for. And I did.
No one mentioned this radical change and soon other women joined me. And the world moved on!

Note: Audrey was an active volunteer for years and then served as a Staff associate (a job title used for some years for lay workers) in charge of pastoral care. She was well known for organizing various groups and for getting new people connected with others.
Her husband Norm was an outstanding bass voice in our choir and star of many concerts for both his voice and his storytelling.
They moved to Victoria and Norm has since died but Audrey continues active in her congregation.
