100 Years of FGUC

In 2021 Fort Garry United Church celebrated 100 Years.

The church held its first service on November 6, 1921 and was named United Church, Fort Garry. Formed by Presbyterians and Methodists it was initially a mission church of the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches in Canada and their Co-operative Committee joining the United Church of Canada union in 1925.

As the FGUC coordinating committee for the One-Hundredth Anniversary continued to meet a number of important themes evolved. Values like Relationship, Connection, Celebration, and Homecoming kept re-emerging in conversations. We connected with former congregation members of those who were associated with the church.

We received memories, stories, or photos from the distant past or recent years.

COVID 19 lock-downs and restrictions affected our celebrations, but we adapted our plans to allow celebrations to continue throughout the year. A Zoom Anniversary Service was planned for November 7, 2021. Low case counts allowed a hybrid service with over 70 in the sanctuary and many others on Zoom.
